Plus it’s one of the few versions of the Joker in the comics where my mind’s ear hears Mark Hamill saying the dialogue. Tim has to work out how to save himself and any more potential victims despite the Joker seemingly having thought of all the possible escape routes in advance. Simple plot: The Joker comes across Tim Drake’s Robin purely by chance one Christmas night, and decides to take him along as he rides around Gotham running random people over. A simple monster who goes back and forth from funny to terrifying without the trying to hard flavour of the Morrison version.

Yes, while Grant Morrison was gearing up to use the Joker as a “super-sane“ person who constantly reinvented himself to “cope with the modern world“ (ie typical Morrison overthinking), Dini instead decides to essentially use something along the lines of his version of the Joker from the DCAU and Arkham games. Another Paul Dini outing from the preboot DCU, Slayride isn’t really a good Christmas story in terms of message or character like some of my examples, but it does have one of the better versions of the Joker from the time period.
